Workshops coming to area art center

Leona Jurincie will be teaching two 4-week workshops at the Chesterton Art Center, starting Saturday, Aug. 10. The first is a prismacolor pencil class from 9:00 a.m. to noon.. Participants will learn blending, layering applications, various techniques with prismacolor pencils and art sticks, plus how to utilize the correct solvent for specific effects. The class is designed for beginners.

The second class is an oil painting class starting Saturday, Aug. 10 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.. The class is designed for beginners, as well as more advanced students. Beginners will learn basic oil painting techniques. Jurincie will walk them through starting a project, mixing colors, using/cleaning brushes, and utilizing solvents. Intermediate and advanced students will practice using still lifes or reference photos. They will learn how to enhance their work with color and how to use more than one reference photo.

Supply lists will be provided upon registration. The cost of each class is $170, with members receiving a $20 discount. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton. To see a full list of adult classes, visit www.chestertonart.com.
