Children’s Story-times will return to both branches of Westchester Public Library the week of Sept. 9. Registration is necessary and began Aug. 26.  These story-times help children and caregivers build early literacy skills through the Every Child Ready to Read program.

By registering, children are committed to coming every week for a five-week session, Sept. 9 to Oct. 11.  There will be no Storytime on Friday, Sept. 27 at either location.

At the Thomas branch, Stories and Kicks for 4, 5, 6 will meet on Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m.  Children ages 4-6 are invited to join in for exciting stories, silly songs, pretending, dancing, clever crafts, and more.

On Wednesday mornings at the Thomas branch, there will be two sessions of Play Date.  The sessions will meet at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Play Date is a drop-in, unstructured playtime for babies newborn to 24 months old (siblings welcome) and their parent or caregiver.  Tickle Tales, for babies 9-24 months, also takes place on Wednesdays at Thomas, with two sessions, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m.  Tickle Tales will start on Wednesday, Sept. 25 and run through Wednesday, October 9.

Toddler Time will meet on Thursday at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, and Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. only.  This program is a very active, musical story-time session for 2-3-year-olds and their caregivers.

The Thomas Branch is located at 200 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton. Registration can be done in person or by calling the library, 219-926-7696.

At the Hageman branch, Toddler Time will meet on Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m., with a second class meeting at 11:00 a.m. This program is a very active, musical story-time session for 2-3-year-olds and their caregivers.

On Tuesday mornings at the Hageman branch, there will be two sessions of Play Date.  The sessions will meet at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Play Date is a drop-in, unstructured playtime for babies newborn to 24 months old (siblings welcome) and their parent or caregiver.  Tickle Tales, for babies 9-24 months, also takes place on Tuesdays at Hageman, with two sessions, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m. Tickles Tales will start on Tuesday, Sept. 24 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 8

On Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., Wee Wonders offers a hands-on exploration of weekly themes for 2-3 year-olds. This program will include a book or two, music, and a weekly project. Children will use their senses to experience the world around them through artistic and sensory projects.

Additionally, once a month the Hageman branch invites children ages 4, 5, and 6 to Tinker & Create. This program will take place on Monday, Sept.  9 and Monday, Oct. 14, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Classes revolve around science, design, engineering, and art through hands-on, project-based work.
