Coming attractions at Calumet Park Cemetery/Chapel, Rendina Funeral Home

Light the Darkness 5K walk/run on September 28. The second annual 5K offers a chance for all levels of participants to do what they love while helping to raise money for suicide awareness and prevention.  Last year, 116 people of all ages participated in the charity event held at Calumet Park Cemetery at the corner of Taft and 73rd in Merrillville.  Medals will be given out to the first three places for each age group.  Go to www.runsignup.com to sign up. Follow the prompts and: find a race. Registration for the event and t-shirts may be done the day of the event.  Registration starts at 7:00 a.m., with starting gun at 8:00.

Trunk or Treat Fall Festivals at the Merrillville Funeral Chapel (Oct 5), Hobart Funeral Chapel (Oct 12).  These are family fun events. Local businesses gather at the funeral homes, open their trunks, and pass out candy.  Food and drinks are provided by Calumet Park, with games, face painting and free pumpkins to take home as part of the complimentary event.

For those who like to plan ahead, mark your calendars for the Angel Tree lighting ceremonies at all three funeral homes: Rendina in Gary on Dec. 5, 219-980-1141, Hobart Funeral Chapel 219-940-3791 on Dec. 6 and Merrillville Funeral Chapel 219-736-5840 on Dec. 7.
