Registration for Winter Storytimes now in progress

Children’s Winter Storytimes will return to both branches of Westchester Public Library the week of Jan. 6. Registration is required and began, Dec. 16.  These storytimes help children and caregivers build early literacy skills through the Every Child Ready to Read program. By registering, children are committed to coming every week for a seven-week session, Jan, 6 to Feb. 21, 2020.  There will be no Storytime on Monday, Feb. 17.

At the Thomas branch, Toddler Time will meet on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Youngsters can join Miss Cyndi and Grandma Ann for a very active, musical storytime session for 2-3-year-olds and their caregivers.

Stories and Kicks for 4, 5, 6 will meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.  Children ages 4-6 are invited to join Miss Jessica for exciting stories, silly songs, pretending, dancing, clever crafts, and more.

On Wednesday mornings at the Thomas branch, Play Date will meet at 9:30 a.m. Play Date is a drop-in, unstructured playtime for babies newborn to 24 months old (siblings welcome) and their parent or caregiver. Baby Talk will meet at 10:00 a.m. Children can join Kerbi for a storytime full of stories, songs, fingerplays, and dancing. This program is for children ages 9-24 months, with a caregiver.

The Thomas Branch is located at 200 W. Indiana Ave. in Chesterton. Registration can be done in person or by calling the library, 926-7696.

At the Hageman Branch, there are two sessions of Play Date with Miss Ronnie on Tuesday mornings meeting at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Play Date is a drop-in, unstructured playtime for babies newborn to 24 months old (siblings welcome) and their parent or caregiver.  Tickle Tales with Miss Ronnie, for babies 9-24 months, also takes place on Tuesdays at Hageman, with two sessions, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m.

On Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., Wee Wonders offers a hands-on exploration of weekly themes for 2-3 year-olds. Children can join Miss Suzi and Miss Ronnie for classes that include a book or two, music, and a weekly activity.  Children will use their senses to experience the world around them through artistic and sensory activities.

Additionally, once a month the Hageman branch invites children ages 4, 5, and 6 to join Miss Sandy for Tinker & Create. This program will take place on Monday, January 13 and Monday, Feb. 10, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Classes revolve around science, design, engineering, and art through a hands-on activities.

Hageman is also host to Saturday Crafternoons for a seasonal, afternoon craft making event with 2- to 5-year-old child(ren), presented by Miss Ronnie.The event runs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 11 and Feb. 1, with families coming and going as they wish during the hour.

The Hageman Branch is located at 100 Francis Street in Porter. Registration can be done in person or by calling the library, 219-926-9080.
