Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest offers visitors the opportunity to observe the night sky using PNW university telescopes under the guidance of PNW astronomy faculty.

Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest once again becomes an open-air planetarium at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3. This marks the beginning of yet another year of stargazing events at Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest. Another star party is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 and a third for 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28. Admission is free to all events.

These public events will once again be hosted by Adam Rengstorf, associate professor of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University Northwest. “Gabis Arboretum is a nice dark place for stargazing,” said Rengstorf.

If weather conditions prevent stargazing, an onsite presentation will be held inside the Railway Depot building.

Along with the stargazing events, Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest will host two classes offered by Rengstorf and the Purdue Northwest astronomy faculty. “A Beginners Guide to Telescopes,” presented at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 , coaches attendees in the set up and usage of their personally-owned telescopes. Then at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, an Astrophotography Class presents attendees with information on how the night sky is captured through photography.

Registration is encouraged through the website or by emailing gabisarboretum@pnw.edu or calling 219-462-0025. Visit pnw.edu/gabis-arboretumfor information on these events.
