The Northwest Indiana Partners for Clean Air Awards ceremony is now a virtual event, partners announced.

The event, previously scheduled for Aug. 7 at the Hammond Port Authority, will now take place in an online format. The Partners for Clean Air 2020 Virtual awards ceremony is scheduled from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7.

The virtual event will feature speakers, scholarship award winner recognition, the annual awards ceremony, and recognition of program members.

Indiana Department of Environmental Management Commissioner Bruno Pigott will provide an update on Northwest Indiana air quality as part of the virtual event.

Four awards will be presented for voluntary actions taken to improve air quality during 2019, one in each of the following categories: business, municipal, industrial and the Mark Siminski Bicycle Award. The winners were selected from among nominees submitted to the Partners for Clean Air Steering Committee earlier this year.

The winners of the first ever Partners for Clean Air scholarships will be recognized. Abigail Glover of Valparaiso High School and Taryn Schermer of La Lumiere School in La Porte were each selected to receive $2,500 scholarships from among the participants in the competitive essay contest this spring.

The virtual event is free, but registration is required. Register online at https://bit.ly/2WqFSLC.
