Meals on Wheels NWI is delivering meals in the Porter County area. The Portage clients have grown quickly and the agency is putting together a group of new volunteers who would be interested in delivering meals to those clients in Portage. It is necessary to have at least 10 new volunteers signed up and trained to begin the process of delivery.

Using the “no touch delivery system,” clients have had uninterrupted meal delivery. The delivery of meals is the agency’s most important need. As temporary volunteers return to work, Meals on Wheels is looking for regular drivers.

Meals on Wheels is holding orientation/training sessions in person in August to be held at the Portage YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Rd., on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 2:00 and 3:00 pm. There is a class limit of five.

To become part of the Portage delivery team as a new driver, call Volunteer Manager Joan Vith, at 219-756-3663 and discuss volunteering goals. According to Joan, “From recent retirees to actively employed individuals aged 18 to 80-plus, everyone is welcome to apply.”

Founded in 1977, Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana is non-profit serving Lake County, Indiana. Meals on Wheels delivers meals to those in need five days a week using community volunteers.  More information about Meals on Wheels, visit
