The Chesterton Art Center is offering monthly children’s art classes taught by Jennifer Aitchison throughout the school year. The art center will be zooming live virtual classes in December. On-site classes may be added later when it is safe to do so.

All materials are included in the tuition and will be picked up from the Art Center once at the beginning of each month. Classes are designed for preschool, elementary, home school, middle school, and high school ages. Students of all ages will actively participate in learning, while studying one of the major movements of modern art history each month.

All classes will include drawing throughout the month in some form. Students will be exposed to a mix of mediums, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, drawing, weaving, paper arts, and more.

The schedule of classes is as follows:

Monday 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., Home School 8-15 years old

Monday 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., Elementary 8-12 years old

Tuesday 1:00-2:00 p.m., Preschool & Kindy 3-5 years old

Tuesday 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., Elementary 5-8 years old

Thursday 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., Middle School 5th-8th grades

Thursday 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Teens 13-18 years old

Tuition this month will be prorated.  The normal program is four weeks, but December will be a three-week program to allow room for winter breaks.  There will be a make-up day offered for those individuals signing up for a Monday class.  This month’s tuition will be $67.50 for high school, middle school, elementary, and home school students (member rate will be $52.50), and $56.25 for preschool and kindergarten students (member rate will be $41.25).

Preschoolers will need assistance from someone at home.  Families must be current members of the Chesterton Art Center to receive the member rate.  A bag stuffed with supplies is included in the tuition and will be picked up from the art center.  Students may keep any supplies left at the end of the month.

December classes began Dec. 1.  In December, cubism is the art movement the children will be studying.  The art center will also be focusing on the beauty of local nature in winter. Animals from the arctic and antarctic will be created in a fun, cubism-inspired mixed media piece

Students must register and pay before the first class.  To register, stop in, call, or visit the website at or  For more information, call the Chesterton Art Center at 219-926-4711.
