The Chesterton Art Center is offering monthly children’s art classes taught by Jennifer Aitchison throughout the school year. The art center will be zooming live virtual classes in January. On-site classes may be added later when it is deemed safe to do so.
All materials are included in the tuition and will be picked up from the art center once at the beginning of each month. Classes are designed for preschool, elementary, home school, middle school, and high school ages. Students of all ages will actively participate in learning while studying one of the major movements of modern art history each month.
All classes will include drawing throughout the month in some form. Students will be exposed to a mix of media, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, drawing, weaving, and paper arts.
The schedule of classes is as follows:
Monday, 1:30-3:00 p.m., Home School 8-15 years old
Monday, 3:30-5:00 p.m., Elementary 8-12 years old
Tuesday, 1:00-2:00 p.m., Preschool & Kindergarten 3-5 years old
Tuesday, 4:00-5:30 p.m., Elementary 5-8 years old
Wednesday, 3:30-5:00 p.m., Elementary 5-8 years old
Thursday, 1:30-3:00 p.m., Ages 8-15 years old
Thursday, 3:30-5:00 p.m., Middle School 5th-8th grades
Thursday, 5:30-7:00 p.m., Teens 13-18 years old
Tuition is $90 per month for high school, middle school, elementary, and home school students (the member rate is $70), and $75 for preschool and kindergarten students (the member rate is $55). Preschoolers will need assistance from someone at home.
Families must be current members of the Chesterton Art Center to receive the member rate. A bag stuffed with generous supplies is included in the tuition and will be picked up from the Art Center. Students may keep any supplies left from the month.
January classes begin Jan. 4. Students will be expressing themselves in acrylic paint on canvas this month, as well as working in some other mixed media pieces. Classes will be discussing some concepts from the Expressionism movement. Artists who contributed to the concept of Expressionism, including Paul Klee, Marc Franz, and Edvard Munch, will be included.
