Christmas Wine & Canvas

We will host a Wine & Canvas Event at the Portage Lakefront. $50 per ticket, includes all canvas/painting supplies, a buffet-style dinner, and a beautiful view. This is a 21 and over event from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Instruction will begin at 6:00 p.m., but doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and a social hour. Registration is open. Holiday Bazaar & Fair Trade Sale

The Valparaiso International Center, 309 Lincolnway, in Valparaiso is hosting it’s annual Holiday Bazaar today from noon to 7:00 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 10 from noon to 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 11 from noon to 7:00 p.m. We will be offering limited Fair Trade Holiday Items along with fun vintage products available from Sky Blue. Santa and Sirens Toy Drive  

With the help of our friends at Valparaiso Fire Department, Valparaiso Police Department and the Porter County Sheriff, we are excited to once again host the Santa and Sirens Toy Drive from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This event is a stationary display of emergency vehicles that you and your family can drive through and enjoy, with Big Santa greeting you as you enter Foundation Meadows Park, 3210 Campbell St., in Valparaiso.  Be on the lookout for added lights, treats, and fun this year! Holiday Ornament Workshop

DIY ornaments make your Christmas tree look so beautiful and they make the perfect holiday gift. All materials provided for participants to make two globe-type ornaments. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Age: 6 and older (children up to age 16 must be accompanied by an adult). Christmas on the Farm

The Portage Community Historical Society will host Christmas on the Farm from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Countryside Park, 5250 U.S. 6, in Portage. Santa Claus will be there and cookies and beverages will be served. Crafts for children will be available. Fore more information call 219-762-8349.

Sensory-Friendly Santa Day

Exhibit, Opening Reception

The Chesterton Art Center, 115 S. 4th Street, Chesterton (CAC) will celebrate creative and supportive members with the Annual Members’ Exhibition. December Blood Drive

A blood drive at Franciscan Health Crown Point is scheduled today from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Suite C and D in the Marion Education Center at the hospital, 1201 S. Main St., Crown Point. Blood drives are also scheduled at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, and from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23. Donors must bring photo identification and masks are required. Walk-ins are also welcome as the schedule and social distancing allow.

Pictures with Santa 

Families, bring your kids to meet Santa! We’re having Pictures with Santa from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This will be an indoor event inside the Horton Family Children’s Education Center at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Rd. in Valparaiso. Mitten Mania Fun Run

The Mitten Mania Fun Run at Sunset Hill, 775 Meridian Rd. in Valparaiso takes place in the North Field. Anyone is welcome to participate! We are accepting donations of mittens and gloves at the Fun Run. These will be distributed to local organizations in need. You can also wear a fun pair of mittens or gloves during the run! American Red Cross Blood Drive

The American Red Cross blood drive at Franciscan Health Center at the Chesterton Health and Emergency Center, 770 Indian Boundary Road, Chesterton is from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The blood drive will take place in Conference Room B. Lake County Public Library Idea Survey

In November, the Lake County Public Library mailed out postcards to every address in the library’s district asking residents to fill out a survey explaining what they would like the library’s role to be in the community.  This is part of the library’s strategic plan.  Anyone in the community is welcome to participate in the survey- no library card needed. Everyone who fills it out will get a chance to be entered to win a $100 gas gift card, that was donated by the Friends of Lake County Public Library.   The survey can be found at www.lcplin.org/take-survey.  The deadline to be entered into the raffle is Dec. 31, 2021. 

Chesterton Art Center Members’ Exhibition

The Chesterton Art Center, 115 S. 4th Street, Chesterton (CAC) is pleased to host and celebrate creative and supportive members with the Annual Members’ Exhibition going on now through Saturday, Jan. 15. Winter Lighting Drive-Through

You can enjoy the magic of Winter Lights display at Sunset Hill Farm County Park will its annual winter lighting drive-through every day, through Jan. 31, 2022 with music and lighting nightly from 4:30 to 10:00 p.m. The park is located at 775 Meridian Rd., Valparaiso. Auxiliary Looking for Volunteers

St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary in Hobart is looking for volunteers.  There is a special need for volunteers, ages 18+, in the gift shop, west information desk, and transportation.
