    A Valparaiso Teen is Rewarded for Helping Others

    Students, from elementary all the way through high school, make important decisions everyday. For example, they decide whether or not to do homework, whether they should study for a test, who their friends will be and what they and their friends will spend their time doing.     Sometimes the number 13 proves lucky.

    This summer, Dawn Williams, 17, representing the South Haven Boys and Girls Club, was named one of 13 regional finalists in the Boys and Girls Clubs national Youth of the Year competition, making her the highest-placing Porter County club member in the 63-year-old national event.

    Five winners from five regions go on to vie for the Youth of the Year title. Williams will be a senior this year at Portage High School. Read More | Comments

    The South Haven Boys & Girls Club recently conducted its sixth annual spelling bee. The words used were words provided by the Portage Townships elementary schools. Over 30 members competed in two divisions: 1st grade-3rd grade & 4th grade-6th grade. Read More | Comments
