Valparaiso Parks & Recreations Concert Series

The Valparaiso Department of Parks & Recreation is pleased to offer again this year the free Concerts in the Park series. Thanks to the generous support of our individual and corporate sponsors, the Valparaiso Department of Parks & Recreation is pleased to offer the band concert series free to the community.  All concerts are hosted Wednesday night, 7 p.m. at the Butterfield Family Pavilion unless otherwise stated.  Each performance is one hour in length.

July 21 – Valparaiso Middle School Bands – (Held at Downtown Courthouse Lawn – Rain site is Valparaiso High School)

Portage Summer Music in the Park Series

Portage Township Live Entertainment Association is announcing the tenth season of Portage Summer Music in the Park, being held at Portage’s Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, every Tuesday through August 24.

June 22 – Jim Bulunda

The June 22 concert features Jim Bulanda and his Tribute to Sinatra. Bulanda has been entertaining Northwest Indiana crowds for over 18 years, with his musical stylings of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Englebert Humperdinck, Elvis,  Neil Diamond and others.

June 29 – Keenan Baxter

The June 29 concert will feature Keenan Baxter. Keyboardist Baxter, of Valparaiso is a Grammy Contender (2006) and a composer/producer. This “Top 40 Worldwide” young talent offers original compositions in New Age, Blues, Reggae, Celtic, Tropical and Smooth Jazz styles, and has been featured in Shore Magazine, which circulates throughout the Chicago area. He has over a dozen CDs to his credit and has performed in several Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana venues.

All concerts are free and everyone is invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, refreshments, and enjoy the show at the Gazebo, weather permitting, otherwise inside the park hall. For more information call Woodland Park at 762-1675, Portage Chamber at 762-3300 or Terry Hardin at 762-5025.

Chesterton Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve Concert Series

The Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve amphitheater offers audiences a 360-degree panorama view and was built to correspond with the natural contour of the land. Guests are shaded from May through September by a composite of shade sails that are custom designed specifically for the amphitheater.

On Aug 21 – Tommy Thompson Band 6-9 p; Sept 11 – South Shore Brass Band  6-8 p and  Sept 18 – Misunderstood  6-9 p. Brick, paved, and natural trails up to five miles in length. Playground equipment, picnic shelters and fishing is also available. From the South (I-65) Take I-65 North to I-94 East to Exit 26-A southbound Exit on State Route 49 approximately 2 miles. For details call (219) 395-5315. You need only to bring a chair or blanket and any food and drink items you want, except alcohol which is not permitted in the preserve, then sit back and enjoy.
