Portage Perch Fest & Gran Prix Kids Events

The Portage Perch Fest & Gran Prix Committee is seeking children ages 2-8 for the Little Miss Perch Princess & Little Mr. Perch Prince Contest; teens,14-19, for the Dance Team Contest; ages 6-12 for Kid’s Kickball; and all ages for the 5k race, Geo Cache treasure hunt and singers for the Portage Idol contest. No Bummer Summer Day Camp

Give your kids a summer they will never forget!  The Portage Township YMCA8’s “No Bummer Summer” Day Camp will run through Aug. 20.  Energetic camp counselors will make your child’s day so exciting that they won’t want to miss camp for even a day.  Camp is for children 5-14, with age-appropriate activities, daily swim times and guest speakers.  Weekly themes include:  Spirit Week, Music Week, Food Week, Animals, Show & Tell, Safety, Under the Sea. Weekly field trips and events include:  Rock’n Bowl @ Hobart Lanes, Navy Pier Children’s Museum, IMAX Movies, Railcats Day Game, Cabela’s, Lincoln Park Zoo,  Summer Day Camp Olympics. Children must be enrolling in, at least, kindergarten in the 2010-2011 school year. This program is a perfect substitute for day care when you use Camp with Extended Care: Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, call Amber R. Grill, Grab, and Go

Every Thursday in August

Miller’s Senior Living Community is providing a to-go lunch every Thursday from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in August. The lunch will consist of a grilled meat sandwich, bag of chips, can of pop and cookie for $4.  Proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk Fundraiser.  Get your lunch at Miller’s, and join the movement to end Alzheimer’s disease.  Miller’s Senior Living Community is located at 5911 Lute Rd.  Portage.  For more information, call Gwen Kiser 764-0628.

Seeking New Members

Portage Youth Commission

The Portage Youth Commission is still accepting applications for new members. Students living in the City of Portage who will be in grades 9-12 this fall are encouraged to apply. Liaison positions are also available for students living in South Haven and Ogden Dunes. Applications are available online at, or at the mayor’s office at City Hall. The Youth Commission is a 15-member board that gives youth an opportunity to have a voice in local government regarding their needs and interests.
