Lake County Meals on Wheels, a Lake Area United Way agency, is a community based and volunteer driven not-for-profit agency that provides nutritious meals to the home-bound elderly, ill and disabled as well as children in daycare throughout Lake County.

This is a chance to put in two hours per week helping others. By joining the hundreds of volunteers, people just like you who deliver more than 1,800 meals everyday to those in need of a hot nutritious meal, you will discover why Meals on Wheels was voted one of the “Best Places to Volunteer” by the Times Media Company for 2010.

Nutritionally balanced meals are delivered Monday through Friday to help home-bound people stay healthy and remain independent. The program also provides both long-term nutritional support, as well as short-term assistance in a crisis or respite for caregivers.
Besides serving clients throughout the county, Lake County Meals on Wheels also supports Porter County’s Meals on Wheels program. Volunteer training sessions are held monthly on the second Tuesday of each month from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., and on the third Thursday of each month from 1-2:30 p.m.
In 2005, 688 volunteers donated 31,140 hours of service by delivering meals or working in the Central Kitchen. Volunteers not only deliver meals, they also provide a daily check on the client’s well being during their visit.
