In promotion of Living a Healthier Life, there will be free vouchers available to Lake and Porter county seniors to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables courtesy of Northwest Indiana Community Action.

The Senior Farmers Market’s provides seniors access to fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. NWICA in partnership with the Indiana State Health Department will host again this year’s Senior Farmer’s Market Voucher Program in Lake and Porter counties. The program provides up to $24 for seniors to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers markets and food stands.

The health benefits of consuming fresh produce, the social interaction provided at the market and the financial savings make this a highly desired program for both area seniors and area farmers. NWICA’s objective is to continue to promote domestic consumption of agricultural fruits and vegetables, which will only result in good health and longevity for the clients they serve.

This years Senior Farmers Market will take place Oct. 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Scheeringa’s Farms and Produce, located at 9436 Cline Ave in Highland. Supply of vouchers is limited, and they will be given on a first come, first served basis.
NWICA’s main office is located at 5240 Fountain Drive in Crown Point. For more information, call 219-794-1829 or 800-826-7871, or visit www.nwi-ca.com.
