Tucked behind Lowes, off of U.S. Highway 6 and Willowcreek Road in Sterling Creek Village is a new community for seniors that was developed by Rittenhouse Senior Living. The Rittenhouse Senior Living Community celebrated their grand opening and ribbon cutting on Oct. 16, making their existence in Portage official.

“We are excited about becoming part of this neighborhood,” Frank Wehr, chief operating officer at Rittenhouse, said.

The new senior living community is comprised of 30 independent living villas, 66 assisted living apartments and 24 memory care suites. It also brought approximately 60 new jobs to the area.

The employees of Rittenhouse Senior Living believe that residents come first in everything they do.

The two story building is approximately 68,500 square feet and includes a secured memory care unit, beautiful grounds, modern amenities and a state-of-the-art monitoring system. Luxuries within the community include a café, flat screen televisions, large activity areas and spacious apartments.

This is Rittenhouse Senior Living’s third community in the area as part of its three-community partnership with Developer Steve Garatoni. Last fall, they opened communities in Michigan City and Valparaiso, which joined the community that already existed in Indianapolis. Rittenhouse is a privately held, national senior living company currently operating in 4 states.

“Our growth plan includes both acquisition and development,” Ed Yarish, CEO for Rittenhouse said. “This partnership with Steve Garatoni was a unique opportunity to enhance our portfolio and to expand our Operations further into the Midwest.”

Rittenhouse Senior Living of Portage’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Betsy Cuellar, joined the company as its first employee. Cuellar brings years of compassion for seniors and their family members to the job, and looks forward to introducing this new community to the Portage market.

“There are many options for seniors to choose from in the area and we look forward to partnering with them and other local health care providers to bring the best services possible at this new location,” Cuellar said.

Rittenhouse has many living options available for their residents. They offer studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments in its assisted living building. Each of these apartments is equipped with a mini refrigerator and microwave oven, personally controlled heating and air-conditioning units, walk-in showers, cable television and plenty of closet space.

The main building has beautifully landscaped grounds and courtyards, comfortable community and activity rooms, a fireside lounge, dining room and corner café.

The independent living villas are completely maintenance free. They have two bedrooms and two full bathrooms a full kitchen, one-car garage and patios. Included with each villa is weekly housekeeping and one meal a day. This allows for a completely care-free lifestyle.

For residents who require more specialized care, professionally trained staff uses state-of-the-art techniques in the Memory Care Suites. The Memory Care programs offer a secure unit with individualized care for memory impaired residents.

Rittenhouse offers personal care in companion or private living accommodations along with the comfort and security of knowing the community is staffed with licensed nurses around the clock.
