Business leaders, hospital executives, physicians and members of the community gathered for the ground-breaking ceremony for the Saint Anthony Memorial Chesterton Health Center.

This project will feature an onsite lab, an array of advanced imaging technology, physician suites and board-certified emergency medicine physicians around the clock.
The cornerstone of the project is the freestanding Emergency Department. Unlike many hospital emergency departments, a freestanding emergency center tends to offer shorter wait times in a patient-centered environment, with expedited lab and imaging. Patients will be evaluated, diagnosed, treated and released in a timely manner. Those who require admission to the hospital will be transported to Saint Anthony Memorial by an onsite ambulance service.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this great facility and service to the community of Chesterton, whose residents we have been serving at the Duneland Health & Wellness Institute for years,” said Dr. James Callaghan, president of Saint Anthony Memorial.
“Today, our residents must travel to other communities for emergency care, and when they get there, they may face excessive wait times,” said Bernie Doyle, Chesterton town manager. “Bringing additional physicians to Chesterton will improve access to healthcare, reducing the need for residents to travel outside of the area.”
