The Kibble Kitchen Pet Pantry Inc. is a not-for-profit organization working to help Porter County families keep their pets despite the tough economy. The pantry will collect pet food and pet-related supplies for families in need on Saturday, April 16 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at various locations in Portage, Valparaiso and Chesterton.

Teams will collect all kinds of sealed and un-expired pet food for The Kibble Kitchen Pet Pantry Inc. along with any new pet toys, treats, and cat litter. Teams will staff various drop locations throughout Porter County.

“This project is a great way to help those in need, many of whom are newly in need. I hope this project helps raise awareness in our community about the issues the economy is causing for people and their pets,” Michelle Duca, executive director of The Kibble Kitchen said.

“In the past year more pets have become homeless because their families are facing tough economic times. With or without the downturn in the economy, every community has a homeless pet problem. But due to the economic woes here in Porter County, and across the country, the number of pets relinquished to animal shelters and abandoned has increased.”

“We are responding to that need because helping provide free pet food will help some people keep their pets.”

Our Mission is to keep pet-owners suffering from economic crisis from relinquishing their pets by providing pet food until the pet-owner is once again able to afford to care for their pet.

If you are unable to make it to one of the designated drop locations please contact the Kibble Kitchen by e-mail to arrange a pick up or drop off of donations. We will try to accommodate all requests.
