Alzheimer’s Association walk in Porter County

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting northwest Indiana residents to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event for the 2011 Walk to End Alzheimer’s (formerly known as the Memory Walk) on Aug. 10, 5:30-7 at Horizon Bank, 902 Lincolnway, Valparaiso.

Representatives and Volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Association will be on hand to explain the walk to End Alzheimer’s and how to get involved. Participants will also learn fun tips at the “Fundraising Fair.”

The Team Kickoffs is being sponsored by Horizon Bank, the Alzheimer’s Association and various local companies. Reservations are recommended as light refreshments will be served. For more information or to RSVP, call the Alzheimer’s Association Helpline at 800-272-3900.

“There has never been a greater need for northwest Indiana citizens to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said Louise Thompson, an Alzheimer’s Association spokesperson. “This kickoff is a great way to get information and learn how fun and easy it is to become involved in Walk to End Alzheimer’s to support the programs and services of the Alzheimer’s Association.”

The walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research programs. Held annually in hundreds of communities across the country, this inspiring event calls volunteers of all ages to become Champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

In northwest Indiana, there will be a Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Merrillville and one in Michigan City. The Merrillville Walk will be held on Sept. 18 at Hidden Lake Park, 6355 Broadway in Merrillville. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the walk starts at 1:30 p.m. The Michigan City walk will be Oct. 9 at Washington Park, on the Lake in Michigan City.
