United Way of Porter County and the Porter County Americorps partnership are recruiting Americorps members for the 2011-12 Americorps year. Apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in Porter, La Porte, Starke, Marshall, and Lake counties. You will gain new skills, experiences and the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others. Porter County Partnership AmeriCorps members address critical needs in Northwest Indiana. As an AmeriCorps member, you may: Tutor disadvantaged, struggling, and at risk youth; Help families achieve financial stability; Help youth make career choices as an Encore Advisor; Help facilitate after-school programs; Help communities respond to disasters; Help non-profits build organizational capacity through volunteer recruitment and social media. During the term of service, full-time and part-time members receive a modest living allowance. In addition to the living allowance, all members who fully complete their term of service receive a Segal Education Award. The education award can be used pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. Further, members with qualifying student loans are eligible for student loan deferment during their term of service. Full-time members also receive health insurance and child care (if eligible).
