From Sept. 16 to 18, the Chesterton Wizard of Oz Festival will honor the legacy of the Wizard of Oz franchise and the beloved classic written by L. Frank Baum, with parties, activities, contests, and a parade on Saturday, Sept. 17. It will be grand marshalled by Dorothy of Oz producers Ryan and Roland Carroll (“The Carroll Brothers”) and Roger Stanton Baum, author of “Dorothy of Oz” and great-grandson of L. Frank Baum.

Top Oz fans will also have an opportunity to enter a viral video contest for the chance to win a voiceover cameo in the 3D CG-animated musical set to hit theaters in 2012

The 3-day event is the world’s largest Wizard of Oz Festival where hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors from all over the world travel to the small Indiana town for an Oz fantasy-packed weekend. Based on the 3D musical’s push of Oz into a new medium, this year’s festival theme (its 30th anniversary) is “We Must Be Over the Rainbow: Into a whole new dimension of Oz”

“This year’s Chesterton Wizard of Oz festival will be a blast and Ryan and I are so excited and honored to be the grand marshals of the annual parade,” said Roland Carroll who co-created Summertime Entertainment with his brother. “Being Chicago born-and-raised boys ourselves, the opportunity to revisit our midwest roots with our new passion project is very appealing.”

Summertime Entertainment, the production company behind the 3D CG-animated musical “Dorothy of Oz” is set to bow in 2012, will have a designated area on the event’s grounds. In honor of the fest, Summertime Entertainment is holding two contests. Festival attendees will be able to actually audition for a cameo in the film by convincing the judges in 30 seconds or less why they’d make a great character voice. Contests entrants will also have to prove (via printout or on a mobile device) that they have “liked” the film’s Facebook fan page.

And for those unable to attend the festival, fans can also submit a 30-second or less video why they should have a voiceover line in the film and post it on the “Dorothy of Oz” Facebook wall. The online contest will run from until Saturday, Sept. 17.

Meanwhile, in the “Dorothy” zone, fans can take pictures alongside new life-size standees of the film’s animated characters. Roger Stanton Baum and Ryan and Roland Carroll will be signing limited edition collectible merchandise in a booth nearby. There will also be signings and giveaways throughout the weekend for fans that have “liked” the official “Dorothy” Facebook page in order to receive a limited edition comic or trading cards, and a chance for these devoted fans to get a sneak peak and some cast and animation footage from the anticipated film.

“Dorothy of Oz” stars Lea Michele (Dorothy), Martin Short (The Jester), Jim Belushi (The Cowardly Lion), Dan Aykroyd (Scarecrow), Kelsey Grammer (The Tin Man), Megan Hilty (China Princess), Hugh Dancy (Marshall Mallow), Oliver Platt (Wiser the Owl), and Patrick Stewart (Tugg). The film is based on Baum’s adventure books.
