Portage YMCA plans many offerings

The Portage Township is offering several sports programs for the family.

The Y offers swim lessons (for all ages), open swim and lap swim.

New aquatics coordinator Stephanie Coffman has revamped the program to meet the community’s needs. Register by Friday, Oct. 21 for November swim lessons, on Fridays.

The YMCA has added a new look to the racquetball courts. With the help of a generous donor, new floors are being installed in all three courts. Two of the courts are complete with the third one soon to be done.

Not a member? That’s OK: You can still join the doubles adult racquetball league beginning this week through Dec. 18 for $25.

Learn the fundamentals of basketball at the Y’s basketball league. Girls and boys ages 4-10 learn about teamwork through Dec. 10. Practice one night a week for an hour with games on Saturday mornings.

Primary plus fees, $26, primary, $36; non-members, $72.

Now 3-year-olds can also enjoy basketball. From Nov. 5 thru Dec. 10, the league for three-year-olds will practice on Saturday mornings with games following.

Need training guidance and motivation? The Y is taking registrations for the “Couch to Course” program. The Portage Township YMCA is offering an eight-week team training program its 11th annual 4 mile run/5K Walk Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.

Training runs through Nov. 19. The class will meet on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m.

Fees for this program are $14 for Primary plus members, $20 for primary members and $40 for community. A primary membership runs $70 per year.
