Trauma Listening Session to be Held in Portage

The Indiana State Department of Health will hold a Trauma Listening Session from 4:30-7:30 p.m. June 28 in Portage at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road.

Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention staff, along with local stakeholders, will hold an open-house style meeting for area Hoosiers to learn more about trauma, learn how state and local agencies currently respond to trauma, learn how a trauma system could help the state and, most importantly, gather personal stories of how trauma has affected those in Indiana.

Public compost sites close for July 4th

The Valparaiso compost site, 2150 W. YouthFit at Butterfly Meadow Park

Valpo Parks and partner Integrated Movement offer YouthFit at Butterfly Meadow Park.  Designed for children in first through eighth grades, YouthFit strives to educate them on the importance of fitness and wellness.
 Participants will learn how proper nutrition, movement and a positive mindset help them achieve the best fitness levels and an overall healthy lifestyle. The goal of YouthFit is to provide kids with a program where they can learn, be active and have fun.

Thursday, July 5, 10:15 a.m.; Monday, July 9, 11:15 a.m. or Tuesday, July 10; 6:30 p.m. Toddlers ages 2 and 3, along with a caregiver, will hear stories, songs, and finger plays. They will also make a simple craft.

Summer Basketball League

The Fieldhouse-Merrillville has announced its boys high school recreational summer league. Boys and girls ages 10-14 interested in learning the fundamentals of lacrosse can register now for the “LAX Back, Play it Forward” lacrosse camp hosted by Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County.

The lacrosse camp will take place July 9-13, from 9 to 11:00 a.m., at Willowcreek Middle School. Participants will receive instruction from varsity athlete coaching staff and will engage in demos, drills, and games.

Festival of the Lakes Main Stage Lineup

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and Hammond Parks and Recreation recently announced the Ninth Annual Festival of the Lakes music talent lineup for the main stage at Wolf Lake Memorial Park Pavilion, 2938 S. Calumet Ave.  All shows begin at 7 p.m. Free admission and $15 parking.
