Kurt Minko has been appointed to the Valparaiso Utilities Board, beginning Sept. 1, announced Mayor Jon Costas. “We’re pleased to have someone with Kurt’s business expertise and entrepreneurial spirit join us on the Board. His ideas and energy will be a great addition,” said Costas.

Minko is president and CEO with Retro-Tech Systems, a national company he co-founded in 1993 to provide high-tech, environmentally efficient lighting solutions. The company established its corporate headquarters in Valparaiso in 2010.

Minko and his wife Kim live in Valparaiso with their four children.  Minko also serves as an assistant football coach at Valparaiso High School. “Working on the utilities board is an excellent opportunity for me to contribute my business acumen and experience and serve a great community,” said Minko.

Minko will replace Brad Dolezal on the board.  Dolezal has been a member of the board for eight years, serving six years as chairman. “We’re very grateful for Brad’s dedicated service and contributions to the utilities board. He has been instrumental in much of our success,” said Costas.

The Utilities Board is a five-member, bipartisan board, which manages Valparaiso City Utilities, including the departments of water works, water reclamation, and stormwater.  The board oversees budgets, policies and operations.
