Tickets on sale now for 13th Annual Steak and Burger Dinner

Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County is hosting its 13th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner on Oct. 15 at Valparaiso University’s Harre Union.  Area businesses, families and individuals are invited to attend this year’s event as the organization concludes a year-long celebration honoring 40 years of serving Porter County’s youth.

Silent auction and registration begin at 5:15 p.m. and the main program will begin promptly at 6 p.m.  Acclaimed speaker Jim “Basketball” Jones will bring his inspirational and entertaining message about overcoming personal challenges.

The Steak and Burger Dinner is an annual fundraising event specially designed to bring caring adult community members and Boys and Girls Club members together for a fun filled evening. Each table is shared by adults and members to offer the unique opportunity for both to share stories and a meal together. At this dinner, club members are served steaks and everyone else eats burgers.

Porter Regional Hospital is the presenting sponsor of the 13th Annual Steak & Burger Dinner.  Table sponsorship opportunities are still available and range from $200 to $1500.  Individual tickets are also available for $100 each.

Volunteer coaches needed for Boys and Girls Clubs

Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County has opportunities available for outstanding individuals to serve as volunteer Coaches in their basketball and indoor soccer youth leagues at their Valparaiso, South Haven and Portage club sites.

The leagues are divided by age groups and serve children ages 5-13.  Volunteer coaches are responsible for demonstrating and upholding respect for the game, players and officials, instruction of basic skills and fundamentals of the sport, emphasizing fair play, honesty and good sportsmanship and having fun with the young players.  All potential coaches must pass a stringent background screening prior to attending a coach’s meeting at the beginning of the season.

Fall sports league season start in mid-September. Practices and games are held after 5 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday mornings and afternoons (Portage Club does not have games on Saturdays).

Valpo Swap Meet and Car Show

Classic cars will be gathering at the Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso on Sunday, Sept. 9 for the Valpo Swap Meet and Car Show.

All makes and models are welcome as well as the new era “future classic” cars.  The twist at the show is that the car and driver are entered for free.  This is great for the car owners who have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours getting their cars show-worthy.
