Valpo Parks’ summer Discovery Day Camp now open

The Valpo Parks is ready for summer and registration for its Discovery Day Camp is now open. The first week of summer camp, which is held at the 122-acre Rogers-Lakewood Park, beganJune 4. The camp consists of nine weeks of day camps and are available for boys and girls, preschool thru entering ninth grade, and are divided into age-appropriate groups.

Discovery Day Camp runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., through Aug. 10, with before and after camp care offered. Camp will not be offered July 2 through 6. Parents have the option of registering children for any number of weeks, but will receive one week free of standard camp upon registration for the entire nine weeks of day camp.

Each week is filled with a variety of fun and engaging activities. Campers will be able to experience field trips, fishing, inflatables, boating, nature hikes, arts and crafts, and a variety of other sports and games.

“Our campers learn, grow and explore throughout the summer” said Valpo Parks Superintendent of Recreation Tarrance Price. “The combination of creative play, outdoor activities, educational programs, field trips, the park setting and our talented camp counselors provide a truly unique day camp experience.”

This year the Valpo Parks is employing 30 teachers and college students as camp staff for the popular program. “Our camp staff is highly qualified and we focus on encouraging socialization and creating the best experience for our campers,” said Price.
