Tours offer ghostly glimpse of haunted sites in region

Through Chaos Haunted and Historical Tours, the public can visit real haunted sites, including restless hitch hikers to ruthless gangsters to crime scenes, murder, mystery, myths and urban legends.

On the fringes of Chicago, Northwest Indiana has a rich history and many areas easy to visit. There are many areas that are commonly visited by ghost hunters which display mysterious and paranormal events occurring at a regular basis.

All bus tours run 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.

The Lake County Chiller Tour runs Oct. 25, and Nov. 2. This is Chaos’ Original Haunted bus tour which includes stops at the old Lake County Courthouse, going inside the Crown Point jail. Tours will also go by the criminal court building and other downtown Crown Point hauntings, Kahler Middle School in Dyer, the hitchhiking ghosts of Reeder Road and Cline Avenue, the circus train wreck of Hammond, and the Kaske home. This tour meets at the old Lake County Courthouse, on the east side, in downtown Crown Point.

The Dark Shores Tour runs Oct. 26. This tour includes the Ghost of Alice, better known as Diana of the Dunes. The group will hear the story of White Flint, daughter of the Pottawatomi chief, and visit one of the worst train accidents of Northern Indiana. The group meets at the visitor’s center on Route 49, just north of I-94, at 1420 Munson Rd., Porter.

The Porter County Terror Tours run Oct. 25. This four-hour bus tour will include stops at the Old Jail Museum, Porter County Courthouse, Valparaiso Opera house, other downtown Valparaiso hauntings, Sunset Hill Farm, Ghost Road with its deep eerie fogs, a lonesome cemetery, The Phantom Blue light that is seen over an Indian burial ground, The only “legal” hanging site of Porter County, Haunted bars, Stories of the Wolf Mansion, and the old Porter County Home. This tour group plan will visit Val’s Famous Pizza of Chesterton and go into the basement where the old owner “Diney Wallen” has been seen.This group meets at 153 S. Franklin St., at the corner of Franklin Street and Indiana Avenue in Valparaiso.

The South Lake County Tour runs Oct. 26.This tour group willdig into the ghosts of the Lake County Fairgrounds, Salesians Prep School and other stories of Cedar Lake locations. This tour group will meet in front of the Old Lake County Courthouse in downtown Crown Point.
