The South Shore Line (SSL) announces that all monthly tickets purchased for the month of May will remain valid throughout June 2020. With the extension of Illinois’ stay-at-home order until May 30, SSL understands that passengers may continue to have differing travel schedules throughout the next few months.

Passengers purchasing a paper May paper monthly ticket should plan to keep that ticket and use it through June, and passengers purchasing a digital May monthly ticket via the mobile app will see a June ticket uploaded to their accounts prior to June 1.

For passengers who receive tickets through an employer benefit program such as Wage Works and Commuter Benefit Solutions, these passengers should not order their June tickets if they receive a May monthly ticket. If additional assistance or further clarification is needed, please contact SSL through the online contact form

In addition, to show appreciation for personnel working on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, South Shore is inviting all doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, other medical personnel and law enforcement to ride free. Law enforcement encompasses police officers, correctional officers, TSA agents, and other security personnel.

To ride free, medical and law enforcement personnel must only present a valid work ID to SSL train personnel that shows they are employed at a hospital, doctor’s office, medical facility, fire department, police station, prison, or related aforementioned agency.

Additionally, any medical and law enforcement personnel who have purchased a paper monthly ticket for May can request a refund by contacting SSL at Those who have purchased a digital monthly ticket for May via the mobile app can request a refund by emailing App Support in the app menu and attaching a photo of their valid work ID.

The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend.
