Registration for the 2020 fall semester at NEO’s New Vistas High School in Portage is open, with school officially starting Aug. 6. New Vistas is a tuition-free, accredited public high school open to any Indiana resident who has completed eighth grade.

New Vistas plans to operate on a hybrid model this fall. Half of the students will attend on Mondays and Wednesdays, while the other half attend Tuesdays and Thursdays. When students are not in the building, they will complete distance or e-Llearning activities that support the in-person instruction from teachers. Fridays will be reserved for “office hours” in which students can schedule appointments to receive additional help from teachers and aides. School officials will reevaluate this model continuously before school starts.

Principal Anna Swope stated that the hybrid model is ideal for New Vistas because of the already small class sizes. “In a normal school year, our classes are 15 students or fewer,” she noted. “This year, classes will be half that size which allows us more space to achieve social distancing as well as more time for enhanced safety measures such as additional cleaning and wellness checks.”

Students and parents who are interested in NEO’s New Vistas High School can learn more by visiting or calling the high school office at 219-850-4448 to schedule a tour. The office is open 8L00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays at 5201 US Highway 6, Portage.
