The Chesterton Art Center is offering monthly children’s art classes taught by Jennifer Aitchison throughout the school year.  The Art Center will be zooming live virtual classes in March.  On-site classes may be added later when it is safe to do so.

All materials are included in the tuition and will be picked up from the Art Center once at the beginning of each month.  Classes are designed for preschool, elementary, home school, middle school, and high school ages.  Students of all ages will actively participate in learning while studying one of the major movements of modern art history each month.

All classes will include drawing throughout the month in some form.  Students will be exposed to a mix of mediums, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, drawing, weaving, paper arts, and more.

The schedule of classes is as follows:

Monday 1:30-3:00 p.m., Home School 8-15-years old

Monday 3:30-5:00 p.m., Elementary 8-12-years old

Tuesday 1:00-2:00 p.m., Preschool and Kindergarten 3-5 years old

Tuition is $90 per month for high school, middle school, elementary, and home school students (member rate is $70), and $75 for preschool & kindergarten students (member rate is $55). Preschoolers will need assistance from someone at home.  Families must be current members of the Chesterton Art Center to receive the member rate.

A bag stuffed with generous supplies is included in the tuition and may be picked up from the art center.  Any supplies left from the month may be kept.

March classes begin on Monday, March 1.  There will be no classes the week of March 22 – 26 for spring break; therefore, there will be a make-up day for any individuals that sign up for a Thursday class.  In March, children’s art projects will “Pop” with some neon colors.  History of the Pop Art Movement and artists like Andy Warhol and Ray Lichtenstein will be discussed as students explore how to interpret pieces from this American movement.

Students must register and pay before the first class. To register, stop in, call, or visit and search Chesterton Art Center. For questions, call the Chesterton Art Center at 219-926-4711.
