Plenty new about Fort Wayne for 2021

As travelers hit the road, looking for new and safe destinations to explore in 2021, Fort Wayne sits atop many a list. As the second-largest city in Indiana, Fort Wayne is conveniently located, affordable, and perfect for families looking to explore new and exciting activities.

DOWNTOWN FORT WAYNE

THE BRADLEY

On your next visit to Fort Wayne, stay in unique luxury at The Bradley – a signature Fort Wayne hotel designed by Vera Bradley co-founder, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard. Set to open in summer 2021, The Bradley will feature a roof-top bar, ground-floor dining and shopping, and the unique and welcoming design style of Barbara Bradley Baekgaard. Plus, The Bradley is located in the city’s vibrant historic riverfront area, adjacent to visitor attractions at Promenade Park and The Landing.

THE LANDING

Fort Wayne earned its nickname “The Summit City” in the 1800s when the Wabash and Erie Canal ran through this part of the country, and Fort Wayne was situated at the highest point on the run of the canal. Today, this area has a new life, and has become a new point of destination as “The Landing.”

The Landing is the perfect dining destination for foodies. Dine at a farm-to-fork restaurant, an Asian fusion restaurant, a brewing company, a wood-fire pizza spot, and more! Plus, The Landing is home to Fort Wayne’s new boutique hotel – The Bradley – and located just one block away from Promenade Park.

PROMENADE PARK

Promenade Park joins Fort Wayne’s natural rivers with the city’s thriving urban center and is your new destination for recreation, arts, and culture. Adventure the trails along the water, discover family-friendly attractions like the tree-top canopy trail and the kids’ canal, relax on porch swings, enjoy festivals in the pavilion, or take to the water with ease using the accessible boat launch.

Plus, Promenade Park was designed to be fully accessible and features special grass that allows wheelchairs to move with ease, tactile ribbons, 3D maps, accessible boat launches, and much more.

Fort Wayne’s network of trails along the riverfront offers unique connectivity from Promenade Park, enabling you to explore Fort Wayne’s historic Old Fort, Headwaters Park (the cultural and festival central in the summer), our Downtown Arts District, and more!

AROUND FORT WAYNE

NEW AT THE ZOO

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is consistently ranked as one of the top zoos in the nation, and they are continually making improvements that help connect you and your family to animals and nature. From the opening of the North American River Otter habitat and updated Monkey Island in 2020, to this year’s surprises, we can’t wait until spring for opening day of the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo.

PUBLIC ART

Fort Wayne is a premier arts destination featuring dozens of murals spanning whole alley walls, and new sculptures representing the city’s past and future.

GENEALOGY

Fort Wayne is home to the nation’s second-largest public genealogy collection at the Genealogy Center, which one can enjoy for free. The Genealogy Center is continually finding new ways to help everyone discover their family history.

VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL WALL

On Memorial Day 2021, Fort Wayne will open a brand-new attraction, the Vietnam Memorial Healing Wall – an 80% replica of the Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. This new attraction enables people to honor brave servicemen and women, right here in Northeast Indiana.

SOCCER

Soccer fans won’t want to miss Fort Wayne F.C. in action this summer! Fort Wayne’s new men’s soccer team will take the field in May of 2021, competing in the Great Lakes Division of the United Soccer League Two (USL2). The club — whose ownership includes former MLS and US Men’s National Team legend, DaMarcus Beasley — will play its 2021 home matches at The Stadium at Shield Field at Bishop Dwenger High School.
