At the Hobart Family YMCA, healthy living is more than simply exercising and eating your vegetables, it’s about maintaining a balanced mind, body and spirit along with overall wellness. The Y is a place where you can learn a new skill or hobby, make new friends, and bringing your loved ones closer together with our many family-centered activities we hold throughout the year.

As part of the Y’s commitment to strengthen community by addressing critical gaps in health and education, Healthy Kids Day will encourage kids and parents, alike, to commit to keeping the body and mind active this summer.

The heart of the Y has always been to serve families by building stronger bonds, engaging in family play and achieve greater work/life balance. Throughout the year, the Hobart Y holds family fun-inspired events that support community and families alike.

Healthy lifestyles stem from nurturing the mind, body and spirit through well-being and fitness. We offer a variety of classes and groups that support the overall improvement of health. Group fitness classes, personal fitness, educational programs, health fairs, adult sports leagues, support groups and many other recreational activities are available.

The YMCA exists to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Valparaiso Family YMCA does it by teaching children new skills that build self-confidence, character values and leadership; by helping adults and families lead healthy lifestyles; by connecting older adults to an active support network; and by providing outlets to give back to those in need and volunteer your time. People engage with the Y on one level, but they soon find a deeper meaning to their activities and a connection to those around them.

Free monthly workshops that enrich your mind and body include yoga, wellness center equipment, nutrition, and book group.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a cancer wellness and exercise class. This program offers cancer survivors the opportunity to build cardiovascular endurance, core muscular strength and endurance, core flexibility, and balance, which may help improve functional ability, reduce the severity of the therapy side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes, and improve energy levels and self-esteem.

The Valpo Y designed the blood pressure self-monitoring program to help adults with hypertension lower and manage their blood pressure. The four-month program focuses on regulated home self-monitoring of one’s blood pressure.

The Duneland YMCA aims to improve the nation’s health and well-being by providing programs and activities that promote wellness, reduce risk for disease and help others reclaim their health. These programs and everything else the Y does are in service of making everyone better

In 90 Days to Rebootwithin a small group setting, we will  explore different exercise modalities and learn about many components of health, including goal setting, exercise, nutrition, stress management and willpower.

The program includes guest speakers, food prep events, weekly topics, goal-setting, and weekly meetings with a personal trainer.

The Duneland Y also offers wellness screenings throughout the year.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on you—the whole person—not the disease. This 12-week program meets twice a week for 75 minutes and uses traditional exercise methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy weight. You’ll focus on: building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem.

Be fit, be healthy, and have fun: that’s what leading a healthy lifestyle is all about.  At the Portage Township YMCA, one can work out in a group exercise class, meet one-on-one with a personal wellness coach, learn more about your own health and wellness through health screenings, or exercise on your own in the Y’s cardio or weight room areas.

Because healthy lifestyles are achieved through nurturing mind, body and spirit, well-being and fitness at the Y is more than just working out. Beyond fitness facilities, the Portage Y provides educational programs to promote healthier decisions, and offer a variety of programs that support physical, intellectual and spiritual well-being.

The Portage Y has joined forces with St. Mary Medical Center to create a new strategic partnership to enhance the quality of life and health in the Portage community by striving to reduce the incidence of illness through clinical services, education and prevention.  This partnership provides you a health and wellness network of resources that will provide the tools and information you need to live a healthier life.

The Portage Y believes sports, fun and exploring new interests aren’t just for the young. Along with improving health, whenever teamwork is involved, there’s the added benefit of being connected to others. Sports include walking/running, pickleball, basketball, racquetball, and volleyball.
