In response to the recent statements and recommendations put out by the DNR regarding backyard bird feeding, Chesterton Feed & Garden Center has planned an event to benefit not only your backyard feathered friends, but also Chesterton’s very own non-profit, hidden gem, Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary.

The public is encouraged to drop off their bird feeders and houses at Chesterton Feed and Garden Center through Thursday, July 8. All feeders and houses will be cleaned and sterilized by Chesterton Feed and Garden Center, and available for pick up on Saturday, July 10.  A $5 donation per feeder or house will be accepted and donated to Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary to further their efforts of restoration, conservation, and education on their 42 acres of wetland property located on the west side of 11th Street at 1050 South 11th Street between Porter Ave and County Rd. 1100 N. in Chesterton.

Chuck Roth, owner of Chesterton Feed and Garden Center encourages everybody to follow DNR recommendations about bird feeding until more is known about what is affecting the bird population.

“As a service to our customers, we have added a feeder cleaning and disinfecting to help with the current bird situation” says Chuck.

Chesterton Feed & Garden Center is located at 400 Locust Street in Chesterton. For any additional information or directions to Chesterton Feed & Garden Center, call 219-926-2790.
