Scarpe’s Sommelier Adam Shoemaker, and Executive Chef Olivia Fissé.

Shop small for the upcoming holiday season at Scarpe Italian restaurant’s first Artisan Market. The market, held on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will feature products from 13 local businesses.

The market will take place inside the Scarpe restaurant at 66 West Lincolnway, Valparaiso across from Central Park. The indoor market will feature various baked goods, arts and crafts, candles, and other giftable items from local and family-owned businesses.

Scarpe values shopping and supporting local, an endeavor made clear in the restaurant’s mission statement:

“Providing our community with regional Italian cuisine and wines while highlighting local ingredients from the Midwest in a hospitable environment.”

Scarpe’s executive chef, Olivia Fissé, explained that the market intends to highlight local businesses while also supporting a local nonprofit and providing the community with a holiday shopping experience.

The interior of the restaurant will be modified to fit stands for each of the 13 vendors featured in the event.

“We want to utilize the space to better support local businesses,” Fissé said.

The vendors included will feature foods, drinks, and holiday gifts, and other seasonal items. Mulled wine, baked goods, soy candles, small crafts, macrame items, paintings, jewelry, and accessories are just some of the many items you can expect to see at the market.

“Even some Scarpe employees have side businesses, we hope to showcase their art and passions as well,” she added.

Fissé’s side-business, Ma Chérie Crafts, will have a stand at the market. The stand will feature small-batch, hand-poured wax candles, and other giftable crafted items.

Scarpe will have its own stand serving mulled wine, hot chocolate and other beverages, snacks, and baked goods. Scarpe will also be donating 10% of their total sales from the event to Lakeshore PAWS.

Lakeshore PAWS is a volunteer organization that has been helping to find pets happy, loving homes since 2011. This nonprofit is meaningful to the staff of Scarpe and the community alike. Scarpe’s Sommelier, Adam Shoemaker, highlighted his love for the nonprofit and how valuable it is to his own family.

“”PAWS is near and dear to a lot of our customers, and my family as well. My parents, Chris and Katrina Shoemaker, adopted their dog, Cardi, from Lakeshore PAWS,” Shoemaker said.

There will be an information booth for Lakeshore PAWS within the market.

With relation to Lakeshore PAWS, there will be several vendors targeted toward the furry-friend population. Expect to see Pawsibly Pampered (Handmade Dog Accessories) and Lori’s Tasty Treats (Homemade Dog Treats).

The market will be free for vendors to partake in and will have free admission. All ages are welcome. As this market is in support of the Lakeshore PAWS, vendors will be given the opportunity to donate a portion of their sales to the nonprofit. Attendees are welcome to donate, too. Donations are not expected, but they are greatly appreciated.
