Winter Fest & Tree Lighting

Hometown Holiday Celebration 

The Duneland Chamber of Commerce will kick off the Hometown Holiday Celebration. Sometimes with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we forget the purpose of the holidays. Whether it’s good smells, twinkly lights, warm company, or an extra sense of peace in your heart. Share what the holiday season means to you. The winner will win a $50 gift card, conduct the Eighth Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Chesterton and be the grand marshal in our Twilight Parade! Light the Night for Senior Hunger

Join Meals on Wheels for the tree lighting ceremony and holiday party for Light the Night for Senior Hunger from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 8446 Virginia St., in Merrillville. Over 70 Vendors at our Christmas craft show! Admission is free, but please bring an item for the Portage Food Pantry. Ornament Workshop

The Art Barn School of Art, 695 N. 400 E., in Valparaiso is planning an ornament workshop from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Art Barn requires face masks and encourages social distancing. Love Lights Shine Again Ceremony

The annual Love Lights Tree Blessing at Franciscan Health Michigan City offers the opportunity to honor a loved one while supporting the community. This year’s ceremony, Love Lights Shine Again, will take place beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by prayers and Christmas carols at 5:00 p.m. in the hospital lobby. This annual event allows community members to honor loved ones during the holiday season. Families make $3 donations, which benefit Franciscan Health Michigan City’s mission and community outreach activities. Christmas Wine & Canvas

We will host a Wine & Canvas Event at the Portage Lakefront. $50 per ticket, includes all canvas/painting supplies, a buffet-style dinner, and a beautiful view. This is a 21 and over event from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Instruction will begin at 6:00 p.m., but doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and a social hour. Registration is open. Santa and Sirens Toy Drive  

With the help of our friends at Valparaiso Fire Department, Valparaiso Police Department and the Porter County Sheriff, we are excited to once again host the Santa and Sirens Toy Drive from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This event is a stationary display of emergency vehicles that you and your family can drive through and enjoy, with Big Santa greeting you as you enter Foundation Meadows Park, 3210 Campbell St., in Valparaiso.  Be on the lookout for added lights, treats, and fun this year! Sensory-Friendly Santa Day

Come see Santa! An alternative environment for children with sensory processing difficulties at Haven Hollow Park, 330 W. 700 North, in Valparaiso from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Parents are welcome to take pictures, each time slot is 10 minutes. Pictures with Santa 

Families, bring your kids to meet Santa! We’re having Pictures with Santa from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This will be an indoor event inside the Horton Family Children’s Education Center at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Rd. in Valparaiso. The pictures will be taken by the Duneland Photography Club. For entry to Pictures with Santa, you can bring a donation of any amount. Be prepared to stand in line. Mitten Mania Fun Run

The Mitten Mania Fun Run at Sunset Hill, 775 Meridian Rd. in Valparaiso takes place in the North Field. Anyone is welcome to participate! We are accepting donations of mittens and gloves at the Fun Run. These will be distributed to local organizations in need. You can also wear a fun pair of mittens or gloves during the run! Auxiliary Looking for Volunteers

St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary in Hobart is looking for volunteers.  There is a special need for volunteers, ages 18+, in the gift shop, west information desk, and transportation.
